Today I got the idea to make valentines for my kids to give to their classmates when they exchange cards this year. I generally don't make too big a deal out of this holiday. In years past, I've been content to let the kids pick whatever boxed bunch of super heroes they feel like giving (or what's left over at the dollar store the day before the party). This year I'm going a different route - using my photography to help make the holiday a little more special.
So my idea for Sam's card started above, with a heart-shaped collection of red cars, trucks, tractors and trailors on an old family quilt. (As some of you know, nothing says Sam Patton like a handful of matchbox cars.) After I formed the heart, I started taking some close-ups of the vehicles. I began to wonder if I could piece them together to form the shape of a heart in a collage.
Once I roughed in the heart shape, I snapped a few pictures of Sam to fill in the gaps:

Tomorrow I will attempt to create Will's lego themed valentine
(or I will throw in the towel and head to Dollar General).
